Notifications

A running list of updates and alerts — leave requests, announcements, payroll, and more — that need someone's attention.

Overview

Notifications keep everyone informed the moment something relevant happens to them, without having to go looking for it. A small bell icon in the top header shows how many notifications are unread, and clicking it opens a quick preview of the most recent ones.

A full notifications page lets people review, act on, and clean up their notification history. Some notifications — like a new leave request — even let an approver take action directly from the notification itself.

Who uses it

  • HR Admins: Receive notifications for company-wide events such as new leave requests, and can approve or reject leave requests directly from a notification.
  • Managers: Receive notifications about their team's leave requests and other items requiring their attention, and can approve or reject them from the notifications list.
  • Employees: Receive notifications when their leave is approved or rejected, when a new company announcement or policy is published, when payroll is generated, when a performance review is due, and for other personal updates.

What you can do here

  • See an always-visible bell icon in the header showing the number of unread notifications.
  • Open a quick dropdown from the bell to preview the ten most recent notifications, mark one as read, mark everything as read, or clear a notification without leaving the current page.
  • Visit the full Notifications page to see the complete history, with pagination for going further back.
  • Click a notification to open whatever it's about — a leave request, an announcement, a policy, and so on — and it's automatically marked as read.
  • For a manager or HR Admin with permission to manage leave, approve or reject a pending leave request notification right there in the list, adding an optional note (for approvals) or a required reason (for rejections).
  • Clear a single notification or clear the entire list at once.
  • Receive an optional email for certain notifications in addition to the in-app alert, when the sender has chosen to include one.

Step-by-step: Reviewing and acting on a leave request notification

  1. 1Click the bell icon in the header, or go to the full Notifications page.
  2. 2Find the Leave request notification from the employee awaiting a decision.
  3. 3Choose Approve or Reject. If rejecting, enter a reason (required); if approving, an optional note can be added for the employee.
  4. 4Confirm — the request is updated immediately, the notification is removed from the pending list, and the employee is notified of the outcome.

How it connects to other modules

  • Announcements: publishing an announcement notifies everyone in its chosen audience.
  • Leave Management: applying for, approving, rejecting, or cancelling leave all generate notifications, and pending requests can be actioned straight from a notification.
  • Performance: a performance review being due or completed can trigger a notification.
  • Salary & Payroll: payroll being generated for a pay period notifies affected employees.
  • Company Policies: publishing a new policy notifies the people expected to acknowledge it.

Good to know

  • Notifications update live — an in-app real-time alert appears the moment something happens, without needing to refresh the page.
  • Clearing a notification only removes it from your own list — it doesn't undo or affect the underlying leave request, announcement, or other item.
  • If an email couldn't be sent, the in-app notification still goes through — no one misses being notified inside the app.
